MOTION GRAPHICS 🪩 ANIMATION 💿
Xingpei Shen is an award-winning filmmaker, animator, and motion graphics designer, based in Providence, Rhode Island.
Shen earned a BFA in Film/Animation/Video at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2017, and an MFA in Animation at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) in 2024.
Shen’s film Lotus Lantern has shown internationally at more than 30 film festivals including the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Melbourne International Animation Festival, and GLAS Animation Festival. It has won Best Animated Film at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and the Golden Ger International Film Festival. Lotus Lantern was also long-listed for the Academy Award in 2018.
Shen has been working as a freelance motion graphics designer for clients like the Wall Street Journal, VICE Media, and Spotify for over five years. Previously, they worked as a staff animator for VICE Video and VICE Snapchat Discover.
They are currently working on a new film, Wishing Fountain, from Aunty’s House, a Providence-based community arts kinship and studio collective founded by Lilly Manycolors.
